We have long said we have the best fans in motorsports at Pocono Raceway. Whether you have been coming to races for years or 2019 was your first time, we want to hear from you!
This week we hear from one of our great fans, Scott from Warrington, PA Enjoy!
Name: Scott DiDomenico
Hometown: Warrington, PA
Occupation: Project Leader
Family: I’ve been married to my wonderful wife for 23 years. We have 3 kids – a 20-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl, and an 11-year-old girl. My 20-year-old son actually came to Pocono Raceway with me in 2016. We have a 9-year-old dog named Bailey. She is a cavachon, which is a mix Bichon Frise and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Question: How many times have you visited Pocono Raceway?
Answer: My friends and family have been coming to Pocono since 1991. In the early years, we would come to Pocono for both races. But when life brought me more responsibilities, we started coming to only the 2nd Pocono race each year. So, I would say I’ve been to about 25+races at Pocono. We always stay in the infield camping areas where the REAL fun is.
Question: When, how, and why did you get interested in racing?
Answer: I got interested in racing in about 1990 when I say Rusty Wallace’s #2 Miller Genuine Draft Pontiac show car was on display in Bethlehem, PA. It was so cool to see it, I was hooked ever since. While Rusty has since retired, I still have a fondness for awesome looking NASCAR racecars.
Question: What is some advice you would like to give a possible first time Pocono Raceway fan?
Answer: The advice I would give first-timers to Pocono is to camp in the infield. Camping gives the fan a complete experience with opportunities to meet other fun Pocono fans, the concert, the fireworks and of course, several races throughout the weekend. You could also find yourself lucky enough to meet a driver or two in the infield.
Question: What driver would you like to one day meet and why?
Answer: I would like to meet Kyle Busch because in my opinion, he is the face of the future of NASCAR. He combines driving skills and competitiveness to each race and usually puts an awesome show on for the racing fans.
Question: Any additional experiences or stories at Pocono Raceway that you would like to share?
Answer: My friends and I really love how Pocono has evolved over the years as the sport has changed. Bringing truck races and now Xfinity races to Pocono has been a great move for race fans. Also, to be the first track to hold multiple Cup races on the same weekend in 2020 sure will be a lot of fun and excitement at Pocono.
