Pocono IndyCar 400 Tickets Now Available
Long Pond, PA (October 1, 2012) ― Pocono Raceway announced today open-wheel racing will return to “The Tricky Triangle,” following a 23-year hiatus, with a 400-mile IZOD IndyCar Series event in 2013. Tickets for the July 7th Pocono IndyCar 400 are now available for purchase.
“The fans wanted to see open-wheel racing return to Pocono Raceway and we’re excited to welcome the IZOD IndyCar Series back next summer,” stated Raceway CEO and President, Brandon Igdalsky. “We are now pleased to offer the greatest fans in all of motorsports, the very best in both stock car and open-wheel racing.”
Pocono Raceway’s 400-mile event will join the 2013 IZOD IndyCar Triple Crown, with a $1 Million bonus awarded to a driver who wins at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Pocono Raceway and the 2013 IndyCar Series season finale at Auto Club Speedway. A driver that wins two of the three races will be awarded a $250,000 bonus.
Pocono Raceway’s three corners were designed in 1965 after three IndyCar tracks. Turn 1 resembles the defunct Trenton Speedway, Turn 2 was built to mirror Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Turn 3 is modeled after The Milwaukee Mile. IndyCars were commonplace at the Long Pond, PA. Raceway annually from 1971 to 1989 with some of the all-time greats of open-wheel racing, including Foyt, Andretti, Mears, Rutherford, Sullivan and the Unsers, earning victories at the track once nicknamed “The Indy of the East.”
On July 7, 2013, a new generation of IZOD IndyCar stars, including Power, Hunter-Reay, Castroneves, Dixon and Franchitti, will attempt to conquer the unique, 2.5 mile, three-turn Pocono Raceway “Tricky Triangle” configuration. Speeds are expected to exceed 200 M.P.H. with side-by-side racing and last-lap passes to win, the norm.
Tickets for the 2013 Pocono IndyCar 400 start at $25 and can be purchased by visiting www.poconoraceway.com or by calling 1-800-RACEWAY (722-3929).
I have the stub from Emerson Fittipaldi’s fast lap in qualifying in 1989 and not
having it handy I can remember it was 212 m.p.h. and he complained about the bumpy track.
with repaving I believe we will see speeds around 215-220 even w. the reduced power of these
turbo v-6’s.
looking forward to seeing the cars here again but tell the series the cars do not make enough noise !
I will also be attending the F1 race in Weehawken,N.J.

It says that tickets can be purchased now but the link to buy tickets only offers tickets to the NASCAR events, I wanted to buy early for the Indycar event.
I saw the last seven IndyCar races at Pocono, last one being the ’89 race. They were always Sooooo exciting. We always had such a great time there. Its a great track in a beautiful location. I sure was disappointed to see it go back then. I’ve drifted away from the sport over the last several years, but with Pocono back on the schedule, this will surely draw me back. I have my Tix already. I cant wait to get back to Pocono again !!! YEEHAW !!!
Soooooooooo psyched for this Indycar evemt. thanks for bringing back the real deal!!!!
This pair of Buckeyes are looking forward to a camping trip and first time visit to the track to see IndyCars!
Travelling from Sydney, Australia to see if the Aussie boys can cover themselves in glory. I have never seen Indy on an oval so looking forward to this (only ever saw the old V8 turbos on the Surfers Paradise street course). Does anyone have any tips for accomodation, and do you know if this will be a day or night race? I will have my wife and six year old with me, so something of reasonable quality would be great. Also, is there transport to the track or is self drive a better option? Greatly appreciate any advice you can offer.
To Scott C Sydney, I am a Pennsylvania boy who now lives in Melbourne. The track is pretty much out on its own has its own postcode I’m pretty sure. A hotel and a rental car would be essential unless some hotels offer shuttles, check ahead of time. It is a great track to watch a race and very fast I hope you have a great time at Long Pond!
The track is in the middle of nowhere, try for hotels in Wilkes Barre 25 miles or Hazleton 25 miles. you will need to rent a car both cities have plenty of hotels and car rental places
Been waiting for this for a long time can’t wait
