Name: Mark S.
Country: UK
Occupation: Aerospace Design Engineer
Family, Kids, Pets:
My wife, Frances, and a seven-year-old son, Huxley. We have a British Blue cat called Amos as well as some Guinea Pigs and Fish.
What was the first vehicle you owned? My first car was an Austin Metro, and it was vermilion orange with a black vinyl roof!
What is your favorite food to eat in America and at home?
In America, we love to have BBQ and have visited the south a couple of times. We also like to try whatever we can on our travels; there’s always some great food to be found. At home Huxley loves Katsu Curry, so we tend to have it when we can, his favourite restaurant is East Street in London.
How did you become interested in racing?
I’ve been watching most forms of motorsport since I was a small boy, from Formula 1, to BTCC (British Touring Car Championship), MotoGP…and of course, NASCAR!
Who is your favorite driver, and why?
I love to watch the racing, however, since visiting the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte last year when Huxley got an 88 car, we’re definitely Alex Bowman fans. If Huxley gets to meet him and get an autograph, it would be awesome; I think all his Christmases’ would come at once!
Have you ever been to Pocono Raceway in the past?
No, this will be our first visit, and we’re really looking forward to it!
Why did you choose to come to Pocono Raceway?
Well the schools in England tend to finish towards the end of July, we’d seen the Pocono race on TV a couple of times, and it all seemed to fit together. Our plan is to fly out the day after the local school breaks for the summer and head straight to the race.
How long have you been planning this trip?
We started planning the trip around June last year, starting with the race in Pocono and then looking at the map to decide a route…the internet is very helpful!
Are you doing anything else in the United States during your stay?
Following the race, we’re staying around Pocono for a few days to chill out and visit some waterparks. After this, we plan on heading West through PA, before going up to Niagara in New York State, the back East to the finger lakes, sleepy hollow, a few days in NYC, then back to blighty!
What are you most excited for about race weekend?
The whole experience really, the sights, the sound of engines pushing cars past at hundreds of miles an hour with the grandstand rumbling, the smell of burning rubber and petrol!
What is one cool fact or talent about yourself you would like to share?
I’ve built my own kit car! It was a Tiger Super Six; I started it just after I finished my apprenticeship from the bare chassis upwards. It took me 3 years to complete, and I kept it for a number of years before it turned out to be a bit impractical as a family car!
