LONG POND, Pa. (March, 2, 2017) – It has been a busy offseason for Pocono Raceway, especially in the awards department as ‘The Tricky Triangle’ has collected four awards from NASCAR.
Over the past two months, Pocono Raceway has been selected as the first NASCAR Diversity Track Award winner, was presented with the Innovation Award, was honored for the Most Innovative Driver Integration Event/Program and was chosen for its Tune-In to the Finish videos.
“I am very proud of everyone here at Pocono Raceway,” said CEO and President Brandon Igdalsky. “We have a tremendous team here and for NASCAR to reward our hard work is a great honor.”
Prior to the Daytona 500, Pocono Raceway was recognized at the 10th Annual NASCAR Diversity Awards with the NASCAR Diversity Track Award. Pocono Raceway is the first track to win the award. The honor recognizes a track that identified and activated programming geared toward engaging a multicultural fan base by utilizing staff, community outreach and track assets. Pocono Raceway made significant efforts to reach out to an increasingly diverse population in the Poconos. Last year, it added a Spanish-language promotion for its NASCAR XFINITY Series race and included a video spotlighting NASCAR Diversity intern Antonio Russo as part of its overall activation to highlight family participation.
Pocono Raceway was presented with the Innovation Award at the annual NASCAR Summit presented by American Medical Response.
Pocono Raceway took home the Track Services Innovation Award which is presented annually to the individual or group that displays the ability to create or adapt tools, processes or solutions that address a problem/concern shared by multiple tracks.
Faced with the adversity of rain and postponements in every major event weekend, Pocono Raceway management and staff worked through staffing issues and with surrounding tracks to create a foundation for a form of mutual aid agreements for the region. It is this forward thinking, working out of the ordinary operations to execute a successful weekend event.
NASCAR held a 2016 Tune-In to the Finish competition and Pocono Raceway and Auto Club Speedway were selected as the top performers by the judging panel, which included representatives from NBC and FOX, among others. Pocono Raceway developed weekly videos and social media content around the #PoconoTuneInTrivia. The videos were filmed at the raceway, with partners and at local university and nearly the entire team was involved.
The Pocono Raceway Takeover of Philadelphia was chosen as the Most Innovative Driver Integration Event/Program at the annual NASCAR Marketing and Communication Summit with a judging panel that included representatives from NBC and FOX among others. Pocono Raceway partnered with Comcast for a day-long takover of Philadelphia that included 10 event stops, four race cars, one mascot, five drivers, one first pitch, two STEM sessions, one parade lap, one pit stop, two cheesesteaks, three NASCAR teams and a host of media as well as social media interaction.
Pocono Raceway will host seven national motorsports events during the 2017 racing season, including a NASCAR XFINITY Series race on June 10. The Pocono 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) race is set for June 11, the Pennsylvania 400 MENCS race on July 30 and the ABC Supply 500 Verizon IndyCar Series race on August 20. The Pocono Mountains 150 NASCAR Camping World Truck race is scheduled for July 29 and two ARCA Series Presented by Menards races with General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200 on June 9 and the ARCA Racing Series 150 on July 28 offered as well.
Tickets for all races are now on sale at www.poconoraceway.com or by calling 1-800-RACEWAY.
