LONG POND, Pa. (August 12, 2016) – Pocono Raceway Fire Chief Dave Richards recently presented length of service award to seven members of his team who have assisted the racetrack and its fans for more than 40 years. Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner Tom Solobay and Pocono Raceway Senior Director of Facilities Operations Kevin Henry were on hand to also honor these great men.
Dan Assal, Brent Talbot, Roy Foy Sr., Don Harpel, Ron Miller, Jim Scott and Ed Whiteman have combined to work at Pocono Raceway for 311 years and were honored for their dedication and support prior to the Pennsylvania 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
Assal and Miller are both 47-year veterans at Pocono Raceway, while Scott has registered 46 years. Whiteman and Talbot both have 45 years under their belts with Foy Sr. (41 years) and Harpel (40) rounding out the list.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to this group and especially these men who have offered their time to ensure our fans, drivers and staff are safe on race weekends,” said Pocono Raceway President & CEO Brandon Igdalsky. “Their dedication to safety and their tireless work is often done behind the scenes but they are a valuable part of what makes Pocono Raceway so great.”
The length of service awards are a new honor instituted by Richards.
Pocono Raceway employs 188 fire fighters during a national race weekend, making the firehouse among the top five largest in Pennsylvania in terms of active fire fighters on duty.
Some of the honorees will be on hand on August 21 when Pocono Raceway hosts the Verizon IndyCar Series ABC Supply 500. To purchase tickets, visit www.poconoraceway.com or call 1-800-Raceway.
